Honorary Commander 🇺🇸

Natalie at Honorary Commander change of command ceremony

I’m incredibly honored to share that I have been officially sworn in as an Honorary Commander for the Idaho Air National Guard’s 124th Fighter Wing. The ceremony marked the beginning of my three-year term. Humbled is an incredible understatement.

This is part of a U.S. Air Force program that connects civilian leaders with military units to build mutual understanding and support. Over the next three years, I’ll be attending official events, briefings, and on-base experiences to learn firsthand what our Airmen do in service to Idaho and our country.

The 124th Fighter Wing, based at Gowen Field in Boise, is home to the A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the “Warthog.” There is nothing like seeing (and hearing) these up close. These legendary aircraft are built for close air support and have served in combat zones around the world. Alongside these jets, the Wing includes specialized units supporting medical care, logistics, emergency response, wildfire, and homeland defense.

The mission of the 124th Fighter Wing is both powerful and humbling. These are the men and women who train, deploy, and respond at a moment’s notice—often without recognition or fanfare. My role is to ask questions, build relationships, and help bridge the civilian and military communities.

As the daughter of an Air Force veteran, I was raised with a deep respect for service. My understanding of patriotism has always been rooted in gratitude—an appreciation for the unseen sacrifices that make our freedoms possible.

For the next three years I will be serving to connect the community to the inner workings of the Idaho Air Guard. I will be working directly with Scott B. “Johnnie” Walker, Lt Col.124th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Commander We already have some plans in the works. I think you guys are going to enjoy this. There is a lot to show you.

124th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Commander

This opportunity feels like a small way to give back.

More than a title, this appointment is a commitment—to show up, to listen, and to be part of something bigger than myself. I’ll be sharing pieces of this journey along the way, and I hope it inspires a bit more connection between those who serve and those of us who benefit from that service every day.

To the Airmen of the 124th Fighter Wing—thank you for letting me walk alongside you.
