Lorelle Rau

I’ve been a fan of local artist @lorellerau of @lorelleraustudios for a while now. Not only is she a fantastic creative, she holds an impressive resume of accomplishments and she does so much in the community. Not to mention is such a lovely person. With all of the chaos in the world right now it seemed like the perfect time to highlight someone who’s making the world beautiful, one art piece at a time.

Lorelle Rau is an art consultant and collage artist based in Boise, Idaho. Working primarily with paper, she explores ideas of nature, place, and the environment by piecing together found imagery to create graceful, linear landscapes and abstract scenes. Color, texture, and shape are carefully balanced in her work, often using paper and ink she makes herself from plant fibers. Her practice is always evolving, driven by curiosity and a deep connection to materials and process.

In addition to her studio work, Lorelle is the Assistant Director at @capitolcontemporarygallery and works independently as an art consultant. She helps individuals and businesses find artwork that truly fits their space, guiding clients through everything from selecting a single piece to developing a full art plan for a home or office. She specializes in the placement, acquisition, and installation of original paintings, sculpture, photography, and prints, always with an eye toward budget, style, and intention.

Lorelle holds an MA in Arts Administration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, along with a BS in Art Management and a BA in Studio Art from Appalachian State University. She was a recipient of the Alexa Rose Foundation Grant in 2019, and her work is held in private and public collections across the United States.

When she’s not immersed in the visual arts, Lorelle can usually be found hiking and exploring the Boise Foothills or Idaho backcountry with her husband and their dogs, Tanner and Sam.
